Severe Thunderstorm Watch: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 5PM for parts of Eastern/Southeastern North Carolina, including the Sandhills. This is the first Severe Thunderstorm Watch for NC of 2026! The risk is for a couple of strong-to-potentially severe storms, mainly south and east of Raleigh through about 5PM, although this will likely end earlier. The main threat would be damaging winds, but I can't completely rule out an isolated tornado, although it is very low. The threat as increaed some for severe weather, but still think this is mainly an isolated/scattered thing, no reason to panic, just stay aware! I'll pass along any updates!

NORTH CAROLINA COUNTIES INCLUDED ARE

ANSON BEAUFORT BLADEN
BRUNSWICK CARTERET COLUMBUS
CRAVEN CUMBERLAND DARE
DUPLIN GREENE HARNETT
HOKE HYDE JOHNSTON
JONES LEE LENOIR
MOORE NEW HANOVER ONSLOW
PAMLICO PENDER PITT
RICHMOND ROBESON SAMPSON
SCOTLAND WAYNE WILSON

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can occasionally produce tornadoes. Stay weather aware through the evening.
