Avoiding mistakes with your concrete will save you money and headaches:
โ
DO: Apply sealant to concrete surfaces every 2โ3 years to block water intrusion and add years to their life.
โ DON'T: Leave your driveway or sidewalk unsealed. Water works its way in, freezes, expands, and leaves you with cracks and expensive fixes.
โ
DO: Lay down 4โ6 inches of compacted gravel as a stable base before pouring.
โ DON'T: Pour over loose or poorly compacted soil. It settles unevenly and splits the slab within a season or two.
โ
DO: Wait a full 7 days before parking vehicles or placing heavy items on new concrete.
โ DON'T: Drive or walk on it too early. Soft concrete takes permanent impressions and surface scuffs that won't come out.
