The Wisconsin DNR has been informed by Wisconsin Emergency Management that Wisconsin drinking water and wastewater systems are at severe risk of cyber-attacks. The following statement and Recommended Actions has been issued to Wisconsin's public drinking water and wastewater systems:

"On July 27, 2026, staff at the Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center (WSIC) confirmed that multiple Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) located at systems within Wisconsin have had communication with a list of malicious IP addresses. This leads us to believe that the cyber threat is ongoing in Wisconsin and requires immediate action to prevent potentially serious impacts to our systems.
Recommended Actions: The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) strongly recommends that all systems do the following:
1. Closely review the CISA advisory to determine if any systems use PLCs from the listed manufacturers (Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens and other branded/manufactured PLCs).
2. Remove PLCs from direct internet exposure via secure gateway and firewall.
3. Ensure that ports 44818, 2222, 102 and 502 are inaccessible from remote connections.
4. Ensure all operational PLCs are supported by the vendor and have received current security updates.
5. Report any suspected or confirmed incidents to WSIC’s Cyber Incident Reporting Form. Please make sure to list any potentially malicious IP addresses that had communication with your PLCs.

Progress continues on the First and A Street restoration project. Today, workmen began laying the original Purington Paver Bricks https://www.kville.org/kchistory/Pure.html on a sand base (over concrete), much as they were over a century ago. The streets are part of the National Register-listed McGregor Commercial Historic District and are one of many things that make McGregor such a special place.

Fun Fact: The first professional engineering license in the United States was issued to Charles Bellamy on August 8, 1907 by the State of Wyoming.

August is National Water Quality Month! Residents of the 95th Assembly District know the importance of having access to safe, clean drinking water and safe, clean natural waters for swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking... the list goes on! Wisconsinites know that our water is a precious resource, which is why my Groundwater Standards notification bill (AB 635) received such bipartisan support this session. This bill will be back next session, and I hope my colleagues along both sides of the aisle will support it once again. Wisconsinites deserve safe, clean water, and I will continue to work with any colleague who wants to join the effort to deliver this bill to the Governor's desk. 💧🌊🚰

David Shimek just wrapped up construction of a major project involving complete reconstruction of the utilities and streets in a 12 block residential neighborhood. What made this job particularly difficult was the very wet conditions last fall combined with poor soils. The project was partially completed last fall, left with gravel surfacing over the winter to stabilize and fully completed this spring. As the lead Engineering Tech on the job, David had to keep the contractors on task and work to reduce the impacts on the residents. The neighbors were remarkably tolerant and understanding though a long, difficult time. David understands that dealing with the people involved is just as important as the technical aspects of construction. Congratulations on a successful project!

The City of Galesville recently completed a street reconstruction project, referred to as the West Side Project in the Cance Park area. The project was driven by deteriorated street surface conditions and the need to replace old and undersized watermain. Additional improvements included sanitary sewer replacement, sidewalks and storm sewer to improve drainage. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the residents during the construction phase which started last year.
