Getting to the bottom of a good foundation. In many situations in the Tularosa Basin, and surounding mountains, engineers require over excavating house pads 2-4 feet, processing the material by mixing with thousands of gallons water and removing oversized rocks then compacting the material back in place in layers called lifts. This is often done even before lifts of engineered fill is hauled in and compacted on the the sub grade.
