Holmes Construction will remain closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 due to remaining ice & downed trees on roadways. Stay safe out there!

Even though main roads are pretty clear, the ice remains on our entire lot & the road to access it. We expect the extreme temperatures to re-freeze many areas that are trying to thaw in today’s sun. We don’t want our employees to chance driving on ice (& even LaVergne’s Mayor requested to stay off the roads if you don’t have to be out). Because of this, Holmes Construction will remain closed Tuesday, 1/27/26. Stay safe out there!

Our previous post highlighted the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) release of their annual DIRT report showing underground utility damage statistics from across the nation for 2024.

CGA also breaks down nationwide damage to show individual state statistics. In 2024, Tennessee 811 received 1,077,815 requests to have underground utilities marked (we call this a “ticket”) with 8,725 reported damages. This beat our previous record of 1,065,688 ticket requests in 2022. 2024 saw an increase of 29,023 tickets and 87 additional reported damages over our 2023 numbers. Let’s do better!

Whether you are a homeowner, contractor or a utility, you all become “excavators” when you dig. There is no charge for using the 811 system and it helps us prevent incidents that lead to annoying interruptions of gas, electric, water, internet, and other utility services. It can also prevent a life-changing mistake. Every excavation damage avoided is one less opportunity for injury or loss of life. Always “811 Before You Dig”!
