SCJ Alliance and the City of Ponderay, Idaho, have received the 2026 APA Idaho Outstanding Plan Award for the Ponderay 2050 Comprehensive Plan! 🏆

As one of Idaho’s fastest-growing small cities, Ponderay is planning for a future that balances growth with community priorities. This award recognizes planning efforts that help create more livable, sustainable communities.

Congratulations to SCJ Project Manager Aaron Qualls and team members Bill Grimes, Hillary Kirby, and Jay Cordovado, along with our partners at the City of Ponderay, on this well-deserved recognition!

Conference season is still going strong, and has been making the rounds! 🎉

Over the past few weeks, our employee-owners have been busy connecting, learning, and sharing their expertise at conferences across the region. Here's a quick recap of where we've been! 📍

At APWA, several SCJers took the stage! David Rowland, PE, Susann Babaei, PE, and Andrea Weston-Smart, all members of the History Committee, presented on "The New Deal," while Scott Rivas, PE, and Liam Taylor, AICP, shared lessons learned from the Malden Wildfire Recovery. We also kicked off the conference with an open house at our Spokane office, bringing everyone together for an evening of great conversations and connections!

It's been a busy few weeks of great conversations, valuable connections, and opportunities to share knowledge. We're excited to keep the conference season rolling!

💜 Tomorrow is : a reminder that taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. Whether it’s taking a break, getting outside, connecting with someone you care about, setting a boundary, or simply giving yourself a little room to breathe, even small acts of care can make a difference.

As we head into the weekend, we encourage everyone to take a little time for themselves and to check in on the people around them, too. You never know when a little kindness, compassion, or connection might be exactly what someone needs! 💜

We loved seeing our community come together to support two great causes! 💛

🏡 Homes First’s annual fundraising event highlighted the impact safe, healthy, and affordable housing can have on our community. Guests heard stories from tenants and learned more about how Homes First provides permanent, affordable rental homes for very low-income neighbors in need.

🐾 Born to Be Wild: 25 Years of Fueling Great Futures celebrated 25 years of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County helping local youth discover their potential, build confidence, and create brighter futures. We enjoyed great food, exciting auctions, inspiring stories, and had the chance to celebrate with our community.

Join us TODAY, October 6, from 5:00–7:00 PM for drinks, appetizers, and great conversation. We’re just a quick 5-minute walk from the Davenport Grand Hotel. Follow the posted arrows and come say hi!

October is Employee Ownership Month! 🦉

We are proud to be 100% employee-owned. That means every single member of our team has a direct stake in our company’s success through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

What’s an ESOP?
It’s a retirement plan, similar to a 401(k), but with some unique benefits:
👉 Employee-owners pay nothing for their shares.
👉 Account balances are tied to SCJ’s share value, not external securities.
👉 All shares are held in a trust, overseen by an independent trustee.

Each year, SCJ contributes stock or cash to the ESOP on behalf of employee-owners, helping build long-term financial security while strengthening our culture of shared success. We’re proud to celebrate employee ownership and our amazing team that makes SCJ what it is. 💼💙
