There are plenty of plumbing ""tips"" floating around, but not all of them hold water. Here are four common myths we hear - and the truth behind them. π¬
π§ Myth #1: Ice cleans and sharpens your garbage disposal.
Ice cubes can help knock loose small bits of debris and freshen things up, but they don't sharpen the blades. (Fun fact: most garbage disposals don't have blades at all - they use impellers to grind food.)
𧻠Myth #2: ""Flushable"" wipes are safe to flush.
Despite the label, many wipes don't break down the way toilet paper does. Over time, they can contribute to stubborn clogs in your home's plumbing and the municipal sewer system.
π’ Myth #3: A slow drain isn't a big deal.
Slow drains are often one of the first signs that a clog is forming. Addressing the issue early is usually much easier (and less expensive) than waiting for a complete blockage.
π§ͺ Myth #4: Chemical drain cleaners solve every clog.
While they may provide a temporary fix, harsh chemical cleaners can damage certain pipes over time and often don't remove the underlying cause of the clog. A professional inspection can help identify, and properly resolve, the real problem.
Knowing fact from fiction can go a long way toward protecting your home's plumbing system. And when you're unsure, we're always happy to answer your questions and help you find the right solution! π
