Here's what makes HVAC maintenance feel optional: a system that's failing rarely announces it. For Dalton homeowners, the unit usually keeps running, just harder, longer, and less efficiently, right up until the day it doesn't.
A real tune-up is a diagnostic pass, not a filter swap. A technician checks refrigerant charge, because low charge means the compressor is working against itself. Capacitors get tested, since a weak one is cheap now and a failed one takes the compressor with it. Coils and airflow get inspected, because restriction quietly drives up runtime. Drain lines get cleared before a clog backs water into places you don't want it. Electrical connections get tightened before heat builds where it shouldn't.
There's a paperwork reason too. Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual maintenance. Skip it for a few years and you may find the coverage you were counting on doesn't apply when you need it.
