That's a DigiTool DG-510 loaded up and about to leave our place, headed to a customer's shop where it'll get to work paying for itself.

This is the business end.

Every part, every sign, every bracket you've ever seen come off a CNC happens right here, at the tip of a bit spinning up to 18,000 times a minute (and sometimes faster).

See those two little blue nozzles? These provide a fine mist of coolant, keeping the cutter cool enough to carve aluminum without gumming up or melting.

Right now it's calm and clean. Give it the go-ahead and it turns a bare aluminum plate into parts, and parts into money.

Ever wished you could run your machine off a PC instead of a handheld?

What's missing here? 👀 A computer.

This machine runs off that handheld controller, and there's nothing wrong with that. But some shops find that they'd rather interact with a PC than a pendant, so they give us a call to make the switch.

We put a Windows-based control on machines like this. A lot of folks just prefer running the machine from a full screen, and once it's online we can hop on a video call and help you out remotely instead of waiting days for a service visit.

Take a look at this Laguna control box. Buttons, a key switch, a big red E-stop, and a handheld pendant sitting right on top. Notice there's no computer.

Take a good look, because it won't stay this clean for long.

Right now it's spotless. Table wiped down, mist coolant set, fresh bit in the spindle. Calm before the storm.

Give it an hour on aluminum and the whole bed vanishes under a blizzard of silver chips. Loud, messy, covered top to bottom. And that's exactly what you want.

That's a machine turning aluminum sheets into chips, into parts, into money.

A clean machine isn't making anybody money. A messy one? Could be.

Swipe through the whole life of a CNC machine, from the cut to the customer.

The business end: a spindle spinning up to 18,000 rpm (and sometimes faster), where every part begins.
Acrylic, turning into chips, into parts, into money.
Rigged for aluminum, clean and staged, about to bury itself in silver chips. That mess is the payday.
Then, when it's ready, it gets strapped down and loaded up.
And it rolls out to a shop like yours.

Here's what every one of these machines has in common: before it ever cut a part or hit the road, somebody had to decide it was the right one. It may not have been the flashiest, or the cheapest - but it was the right machine for their cutting application, their workspace, and their budget.

We could watch this all day. 🌀

That's a carbide bit spinning tens of thousands of times a minute, carving a sheet of acrylic into whatever it's told to be. The white spray flying off looks like pure chaos, but it's the opposite: every single move was mapped out down to the thousandth of an inch before the machine ever powered on.

Something oddly satisfying about a machine that turns a flat sheet into a finished part without one wasted motion.

Snapped this a couple years back: a DigiTool DG-510 wrapped, strapped, and about to ship to its new owner. Still one of our favorite moments around here.

Buying a CNC machine is the easy part. Deciding which one is right for you is the hard part, and getting that wrong is expensive.

A lot of people don't know that you can cut plate aluminum with a CNC router.

In fact some manufacturers won't even honor your warranty if they know you've been cutting aluminum

That's lame.

This is half-inch aluminum being cut by a 3/16ths router bit and it's putting very little load on the machine.

Comment parameters if you want me to send over the feeds and speeds

A lot of people don't realize that you can cut aluminum on a CNC router. In fact some manufacturers refuse to honor a warranty if a customer even cuts aluminum.
