The owner of a conventional grape farm in Peru, searching for alternative ways to boost productivity, recognized the critical role of soil health and reached out to us for support. A devastating flood had severely impacted their yields, setting off long-term ripple effects that prevented them from meeting their production goals and put their farm at risk. Since traditional agricultural management seemed to make the problem worse, they began to explore sustainable practices to address the root cause of their declining yields.
This project presented multiple challenges鈥攈igh rot feeding nematode pressure, extremely sandy soil, and calcareous water. By implementing practices with a measured, data-driven approach, we successfully tackled these issues. Over three years, we executed a strategic plan focused on improving yields by building soil organic matter and reestablishing the plant鈥檚 microbial connections.
We saw a quick turnaround with remarkable results: yields improved significantly, we surpassed the previous all-time productivity record, and production costs decreased thanks to the in-house production of multiple organic inputs and solutions.
The first image of this post captures the farm during our initial visit, while the following two, taken one and three years later, showcase the farm鈥檚 transformation after implementing tailored, science-backed solutions.
Seeing the farm thrive again after years of struggle was a proud moment for us and the owner. Have you faced similar challenges? Let us know in the comments or reach out through the link in our bio.
