What is Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure? Adopted in 2021, BERDO is a groundbreaking ordinance aimed at reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from Boston's large buildings. It empowers the City of Boston to set emissions standards for big residential (15+ units) and non-residential buildings (20,000+ sq ft). 🌿

These standards will gradually tighten, with a target of net-zero emissions by 2050. BERDO promotes retrofits, energy efficiency, fuel switching, and renewable energy generation, enhancing thermal comfort and indoor air quality, reducing outdoor pollution, fostering green jobs, and driving investments in a low-carbon, equitable Boston.
