INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this job description is to establish and describe the job requirements, basic functions, reporting relationships, duties, and measurements of performance for the position of Truck Driver at Scott Construction, Inc.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
This position includes but is not limited to driving truck with a capacity of more than three tons, equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials, such as, but not limited to sand, gravel, crushed rock, or bituminous paving materials to and from specified destinations. Transport and deliver equipment by driving tractor-trailer combinations.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Daily contact may include various levels of management and non-management personnel, town officials and the general public.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Truck Driver reports to the Crew Foreman.
DUTIES
• Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip or tour of duty, reporting maintenance needs to the foreman. Perform daily maintenance, such as, greasing, checking oil, fueling etc.
• Load, secure, transport and unload Company owned property properly and safely. Assist with traffic control.
• Maintain inside and outside of vehicle or equipment clean and free of debris.
• Read and interpret road and township maps.
• Complete and submit neat, accurate reports and yellow cards as specified.
• Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight areas.
• Remain in contact with the foreman to receive any directions, such as changes due to weather related conditions by use of the Company communication systems (two-way radio, etc.).
• Comply with all Company policies, rules, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including applicable DOT Hazardous Materials regulations and Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
• Drive truck to destination safely and efficiently. Attend all safety meetings.
• Identify and communicate work related dangers and damages to the foreman.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Assist with loading, securing, unloading other vehicles or equipment, shoveling, cleaning, etc.
• Direct all questions and concerns from customers or the public to the foreman.
• Maintain expertise on current road maintenance issues through ongoing literature surveys and attendance at relevant seminars and meetings as directed.
• Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by the foreman or management.
