During our first experience digging Oregon Sunstones just outside the small town of Plush, Oregon, we were swept away with the beauty of this rare gem and the energy of the desert. w adventure. In January 2013, we formally established Oregon Outback Mining Company LLC. As a family- oriented, Oregon Business, we recognize the importance of quality, long-term jobs in our state. That’s why we are working alongside local County and State officials, to create new trades in faceting and lapidary that will bring back traditional manufacturing jobs and boost employment, providing stability for families across Oregon. Located in the heart of the beautiful south central Oregon Outback, the Oregon Sunstone is a one-of-a-kind treasure to be admired. A calcium-rich variety of plagioclase feldspar; the stones found in this region are unique to other gems in this class due to their exceptionally translucent facet-grade clarity. Copper inclusions throughout the gem give each stone a unique range of color and shimmering effect, known as schiller. As the only Sunstone in the world known to contain copper, the Oregon Sunstone can easily be considered one of the rarest gems in the world!
