Heat leaves signatures the human eye can’t see.
Silicone reveals them instantly, which is why OmniAerial uses materials engineered for thermal and multispectral detection

We've gotten a lot of snow here in the Midwest this past week and that gives us an excellent topic... Why snow makes RGB drone searches a lot harder than people think.

In this photo from today’s flight, the landscape looks beautiful, but for an RGB camera... it’s pretty much a worst-case scenario.

Here’s why:

🔹 Everything reflects light. Snow is highly reflective, which overwhelms the sensor.
🔹 Contrast disappears. People, gear, and terrain start blending together.
🔹 Shadows get crushed. Tree lines turn into dark, featureless patches.
🔹 Highlights wash out. Snow and ice lose all texture and detail.
🔹 Color shifts happen. Cold blue tones confuse the camera’s color mapping.

For search teams relying only on visible-light cameras, this can mean missed objects, harder target recognition, and slower searches, especially at altitude.

This is one of the reasons we created OmniAerial.

We’re developing visibility-aid technologies designed to help drones, sensors, and search teams detect what matters faster across RGB, IR, and thermal.

When drones operate over frozen lakes, the RGB camera faces some serious challenges.
This footage shows why.

Ice creates three problems for visible-light detection:

🔹 Reflectivity:
Ice reflects sunlight like a mirror. Bright areas get blown out, and anything near those reflections becomes hard to see.

🔹 Low contrast:
Most of the ice is the same color and brightness. That means people, gear, or small objects can disappear into the background almost instantly.

🔹 Visual noise:
Cracks, bubbles, pressure ridges, and subsurface pockets create patterns that either hide objects or make them look like something they're not.

All of this makes winter search and rescue far more difficult than people realize, even with good drones, good cameras, and good teams.

This is exactly why OmniAerial is focused on improving visibility and detection performance in environments like this.

Today we’re introducing OmniAerial.

After years of experience in the U.S. Coast Guard coordinating Search & Rescue - and countless hours operating UAS platforms - one challenge became clear:

Even the best aerial sensors and crews can struggle to detect people and objects when visibility isn’t optimal.

OmniAerial was created to solve that.

We develop multispectral and computer vision visibility-aid technologies that help drones, sensors, and search teams detect faster and more reliably across RGB, IR, and thermal platforms.

Our solutions are shaped by real operational experience and built to integrate seamlessly into modern drone workflows.

Veteran-led. Field-tested. Inspired by problems, driven by solutions.

We’re excited to share this journey and welcome anyone in SAR, public safety, or tech to follow along.
