Let's hear it for Mark Paine and Austin Renner!

These two were getting ready to tackle a job when they realized something wasn't right. Instead of pushing forward, they followed their safety procedures, caught a serious hazard, and stopped work immediately.

Our Georgia crew recently took on a big one! The team demolished and removed an existing conveyor system at a paper mill in South Carolina to make room for a new bridge stacker reclaimer. Just the bridge structure weighed more than 180,000 pounds!

That’s a whole lot of steel and a whole lot of hard work. Great job to our McIntyre crew for getting it done safely and getting the job done right!

It is easy to compare boiler contractors by looking at the number on the quote. It is harder to put a price on waiting.

An extra shift of downtime, delayed materials, additional contractor coordination, rework, or a crew that cannot respond when the scope changes can quickly eat through whatever was saved upfront. When you evaluate boiler repair work, look beyond labor rate.

Sometimes the most important number is not the cost of the repair. It is the cost of another day offline.

At Mid-State, we believe strong communities are built by people who look out for one another. This month, we're proud to support the Van Wert County Council on Aging, an organization dedicated to helping older adults stay independent, connected, and cared for.

One of the many ways they make a difference is through their free transportation services. Last year alone, they provided more than 7,500 rides to local seniors, helping them get to medical appointments, including those as far away as Fort Wayne and Lima. As Mid-State Controller Pam Rice shared, "The elder population is an important part of our community," and the work this organization does meets real needs that can often go overlooked.

We're grateful for the Van Wert County Council on Aging and the folks behind the scenes who work hard to make life a little easier for our community's seniors. It's an honor to support an organization that's making such a meaningful difference, one ride and one neighbor at a time.

There is a big difference between repairing damage and solving a problem.

A failed tube can be replaced. A damaged section can be repaired. But if nobody stops to understand what caused the issue, you might just be resetting the clock until the next failure. Good boiler repair starts with asking questions. What happened? What does the surrounding equipment look like? Is there evidence of a larger issue? Getting the boiler running again matters. Big things are happening for the next generation of skilled tradespeople in Van Wert, Ohio.

Join us in congratulating McKenna Saminego and Callie Garber, two members of our Van Wert shop team who recently received Quality Achievement Awards! Both joined Mid-State through Vantage Career Center's Career Advanced Placement program and have shown tremendous growth in their skills, craftsmanship, and quality of work. Their hard work and determination are exactly what we love to see in the next generation of skilled workers!

Through our partnership with Vantage Career Center, high school seniors get the chance to take what they've learned in the classroom and put it to work alongside experienced tradespeople at Mid-State. It's more than just hands-on training. It's an opportunity to build confidence, learn from mentors, and get a head start on a career in the trades.

We're proud of McKenna and Callie for their achievements and thankful for programs like this that help us invest in the future of our workforce. The future of the trades is looking bright in Van Wert, and we're glad to be part of it!

Sometimes putting a pump back exactly the way it was isn't the best answer.

A lot can change over the life of industrial equipment. Flow requirements change. Demand changes. Controls change. Operating conditions change. A pump that was right for the application years ago may be working under a different set of conditions today.

So when the equipment is already apart, it's worth asking whether restoring the original configuration actually solves the problem.

Depending on what we find, Mid-State can make application-specific modifications during the repair process, including material upgrades and other changes intended to better suit current operating conditions.

A good repair should fit the operation the pump is going back into, not just the condition it came out of.
