We had a great time at the Montcalm County Fair last week!

Between pop-up showers and sweltering heat, the 4-H Livestock Auction was no small feat, but nearly 400 ice cream treats helped cool things down and put smiles on a lot of faces.

We joined in on Kids Day, where young fairgoers stopped by to build their own wind-powered pinwheels and bring “solar critters” to life using energy from the sun. Keeley, age 7, was one of the big winners in the 4-H competition after taking home a grand prize ribbon.

Thanks to all the 4-H families and fairgoers who made this week special. We’re already looking forward to next year.

In Montcalm County's Evergreen Township, Supervisor Andy Ross highlighted why they moved forward with a local solar project.

“The reason the Township Board went in the direction of approving the solar project was because we believe in property rights. We did not want to waste taxpayer money on attorney fees and legal battles opposing the project. Also, we understood the economic impact to the community. We knew that the tax revenue would help out the community as a whole.”

The new funding will help improve local roads, the township hall, and fire barn.
