Juniper Ridge’s leachate is now being routed to Brewer for treatment, and while “contaminated wastewater” doesn’t sound like good news, the story underneath is encouraging:

Communities are speaking up.
Regulators are tightening standards.
New PFAS treatment technology is being built and deployed.
Local municipalities are stepping in to support safer solutions.
This is what environmental progress actually looks like — not overnight perfection, but steady movement toward better systems, better transparency, and better outcomes for the people who live here.

It’s a reminder that when residents, operators, and municipalities stay engaged, we get closer to long‑term solutions that protect our water, our health, and our future.

Small steps matter. This one does, too.

Algae doesn't care how good your treatment process is. At Clayton County Water Authority's Shoal Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Hampton, GA — a two-time Georgia Wastewater Plant of the Year winner — algal growth on the weirs and launder area of both 104-ft secondary clarifiers was forcing operators into frequent, costly manual cleaning, with real risk to TSS and BOD compliance.

The Problem: These are peripherally driven clarifiers, where the bridge, scraper, and skimmer rotate as a single unit and the drive wheel rides directly on the concrete divider wall. That geometry ruled out traditional rigid launder covers like aluminum or FRP.

IEC's patented Flexible Clarifier Launder Cover system was custom-fit to work around it — separate low-profile panels installed on each side of the divider wall, so the drive unit runs with zero interference. Our installation partner, Cornerstone Mechanical, used a portable hydraulic press to punch new bolt holes in the scum baffle on-site, avoiding any need to remove it for off-site drilling.

The Result: 100% reduction in algal growth on the weirs and launder area, with the covers expected to deliver up to 20 years of service life.

In the words of the Shoal Creek WRF plant manager: ""This product has effectively resolved multiple operational challenges."" And from Cornerstone Mechanical's VP of Sales, Andy Bramlett, on tackling their first Schreiber peripherally driven clarifier: ""The IEC cover system was easily customized to fit the clarifier, and the installation went exactly as planned... we are confident it can be successfully installed on any clarifier design.""

Unusual geometry, moving parts, tight tolerances — if it's a clarifier, IEC can cover it.

Another insulated biogas collection cover project delivered — this one at a dairy farm in southeastern Pennsylvania, on behalf of our RNG contractor partner.

The farm's aging anaerobic digester cover had reached the end of its service life — worn membrane, a failing seal along the tank's perimeter, and years of exposure taking their toll. Our team fabricated and installed a new 80-mil HDPE replacement insulated biogas collection cover, along with an 80-mil HDPE sunshade panel, to fit the farm's digester tank structure precisely.

Our crew mobilized to the site after the old cover was removed to install the new system in its place — floating sections into position with a telehandler, thermally welding seams on site, and anchoring the edge along the tank's perimeter. Every weld went through both destructive and non-destructive testing, and every seam passed.

The finished cover now sits taut and secure across the full digester. Our RNG contractor partner signed off on the completed job, calling it complete and conforming to spec — a great result for a great customer!
