Celebrating the People Behind the Work

This Labor Day weekend, we’re taking a moment to recognize the people whose hard work, expertise, and dedication help build and strengthen the communities around us.

At Florida Design Consultants, we see that commitment every day in our own team and in the clients, contractors, partners, public agencies, and skilled professionals we have the privilege of working alongside.

From the field to the office and from the first survey to the final design, great projects are ultimately powered by great people.

To our FDC team and everyone helping shape Florida’s communities, thank you for all you do.

We wish you and your families a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved Labor Day weekend!

Please note: The FDC office will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

🚛 917 New Parking Spaces. One Important Infrastructure Lesson.

Florida recently broke ground on a major expansion of truck parking along the I-4 corridor, with 917 new spaces planned across five locations.

Why does that matter?

I-4 carries an estimated 95% of Florida's consumer goods, making it a critical link in the state's freight network. More safe truck parking can improve roadway safety, reduce time spent searching for parking, and support the movement of goods across a rapidly growing state.

It's a great example of what infrastructure investment should do: identify a real challenge and design a practical solution that benefits the larger transportation system.

And as Florida continues to grow, those connections become increasingly important. Transportation, site access, utilities, drainage, land use, and future development don't exist independently. A change to one can create opportunities and challenges for the others.

That's why understanding the larger picture matters when planning what's next.

For 30 years, FDC has had the opportunity to work within that bigger picture, helping communities and clients navigate growth through civil engineering, surveying, planning, landscape architecture, GIS, and environmental coordination.

🌿 Good News for Florida: Resilience Is Moving from Conversation to Action

Florida continues to invest in preparing communities for flooding, sea-level rise, and changing environmental conditions.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently announced the 2026–2027 Statewide Resilience Plan awards, supporting projects designed to help communities address flooding and strengthen long-term resilience.

That's encouraging news.

Resilience isn't one solution or one discipline. It comes from understanding how stormwater, infrastructure, land use, natural systems, and the built environment work together.

For developers and communities, that same thinking matters at the project level. Considering drainage, environmental conditions, landscape systems, grading, and long-term performance early can lead to better decisions and more resilient outcomes.

At FDC, we've always believed the strongest projects begin by looking beyond today's requirements and considering how a community will perform tomorrow.

Master planning has never been more important.
Florida continues to grow, but growth brings new expectations. Communities today must balance housing, transportation, environmental stewardship, resilience, and quality of life, all while navigating evolving regulations and infrastructure demands.

Master planning is no longer simply about land use. It's about creating a long-term vision that allows communities to adapt, thrive, and grow responsibly.
Swipe through to explore five principles shaping successful master planning in Florida today.

💧 Stormwater design has entered a new era.
Across Florida, performance-based stormwater regulations are changing how projects are planned, designed, and permitted. Success is no longer measured simply by moving water off a site; it's about improving water quality, reducing nutrient loading, and building long-term resilience.

As these expectations continue to evolve, stormwater strategy should be considered at the earliest stages of planning, not after site layouts are complete.
Thoughtful stormwater design helps reduce permitting risk, improve project performance, and create communities that are better prepared for Florida's future.
Resilient infrastructure doesn't happen by accident; it begins with integrated planning.

The Best Developments Are Measured by More Than What They Build.
Successful projects don't just add buildings to a site. They create places where people want to live, work, gather, and connect.

As Florida continues to grow, expectations for new developments are changing. Communities are looking for thoughtful design, walkability, open space, environmental stewardship, and places that improve quality of life while supporting long-term economic growth.

That's why planning and landscape architecture have become strategic components of development rather than steps that happen later in the process.
The most successful projects begin with a vision that balances people, place, and performance.

After all, great communities aren't created by chance. They're designed with purpose.

Projects don't stall because of one big issue. They often stall due to dozens of minor delays.

As development projects become more complex, responding quickly to agency comments, coordinating across disciplines, and resolving issues early can make the difference between staying on schedule and losing valuable time.

With evolving permitting requirements, increased environmental review, and more detailed stormwater and infrastructure standards, responsiveness has become just as important as technical expertise.

The best project teams don't simply react to challenges; they anticipate them, communicate proactively, and keep projects moving forward.

That's why integrated collaboration and timely decision-making are becoming critical components of successful project delivery across Florida.

Florida Has Been Building for Generations. We're Proud to Have Been Part of the Last 30 Years.

Florida's story has always been one of growth.

From expanding highways and bridges to master-planned communities, parks, utilities, and resilient infrastructure, civil engineering has helped shape the places where millions of Floridians live, work, and thrive.

As our state has grown, so have the challenges. Population growth, evolving environmental regulations, changing stormwater requirements, and increasing infrastructure demands require thoughtful planning and collaboration to build communities that will serve future generations.

This year, Florida Design Consultants is proud to celebrate 30 years of being part of that journey.

For three decades, we've partnered with developers, municipalities, homebuilders, and public agencies to help bring projects to life through civil engineering, surveying, planning, landscape architecture, GIS, and environmental coordination.
While Florida will continue to grow, one thing remains constant: great communities begin with thoughtful planning and trusted partnerships.

Thank you to our clients, partners, employees, and communities for allowing us to be part of Florida's growth story over the past 30 years. We look forward to helping shape what comes next.

As Temperatures Rise, Landscape Architecture Matters More Than Ever
From Europe and North America to communities across Florida, this summer's record-breaking heat is a reminder that the spaces we design directly affect how people experience the built environment.

The conversation is no longer just about aesthetics.
It's about resilience.

Thoughtful landscape architecture can help reduce the urban heat island effect by increasing tree canopy, creating shaded gathering spaces, incorporating native and drought-tolerant plantings, and designing landscapes that work in harmony with stormwater systems and the surrounding environment.
As Florida continues to grow, these considerations are becoming essential to creating communities that are not only beautiful but comfortable, sustainable, and built for the future.
At Florida Design Consultants, we've believed this for the past 30 years. Landscape architecture has always been more than a finishing touch. It's an integral part of how we approach every project, working alongside our planning, civil engineering, and surveying teams to create places that perform as well as they look.

As communities face new environmental challenges, thoughtful design will continue to play an increasingly important role in improving the quality of life for generations to come.
