The homeowners at our Everhome Project had wanted a kitchen island for years. Making room for it meant looking beyond the kitchen itself.

We reworked the first-floor layout, combining the former living and dining areas into a new shared space and using the recovered room to enlarge the kitchen.

Now there's room for the island they wanted, with blue cabinetry that contrasts with the white perimeter cabinets. The addition of space, layout change, and update style gave new life to the heart of this home.

Our Everhome Project. 🏡 For the homeowners of this Yardley home, the goal was to make the house they already loved work better for the years ahead.

Built in the 1970s, the home underwent a substantial first-floor renovation and addition, with a focus on creating comfortable, practical living spaces all on one level.

We added a first-floor primary suite with a custom bathroom featuring a curbless shower and heated floors. In the kitchen, reworking the existing floor plan made room for something the homeowners had wanted for years: a large island.

The renovation also included new flooring throughout the first floor, updated living spaces, a more functional laundry and mudroom, and custom built-ins that make better use of the available space. Along the way, we preserved original features, including the family room fireplace.

This project is a great example of how thoughtful changes to an existing home can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

Over the coming weeks, we'll share a closer look at the decisions, construction details and finished spaces behind this renovation.

There's a lot to take in when you walk into the kitchen at The Archwood Project. The oversized island is topped with Cristallo quartzite, with a wood-stained base that contrasts with the lighter perimeter cabinetry. Custom inset cabinets and paneled refrigeration keep the main kitchen streamlined, while a second sink creates another working area.

There are so many showstoppers, it's a feast for the eyes: a custom hood with concealed shelving for oils and spices, a built-in display cabinet for glassware, and a hidden pantry finished in striking green cabinetry.

Each feature has its own purpose, but the real work is making them function together in one kitchen. Cabinet dimensions, appliance locations, plumbing, stone fabrication and the routes people take through the room all have to be considered before installation.

This whole-home renovation in Yardley gave us the opportunity to work on nearly every part of the house, with each space bringing its own set of construction details.

The kitchen features custom inset cabinetry, an oversized island, concealed storage and a hidden pantry. Throughout the home, detailed millwork adds character to the dining room, staircase and living spaces.

Upstairs, the primary suite includes a fireplace, sitting area and a bathroom with a custom steam shower. Downstairs, the finished basement makes room for entertaining, exercise and a dedicated play area for the kids.

Outside, an elevated deck and covered outdoor living area extend the family's usable space with retractable screens, ceiling-mounted heaters and a fireplace.

There's a lot to share from this renovation, and we'll be taking a closer look at the construction details and decisions behind these spaces in the coming weeks.

YOU DREAM IT UP. WE’LL FIGURE OUT HOW TO BUILD IT. Hidden pantries, tucked-away play spaces and screens that disappear... it’s fun to get creative.

You dream it up, and we’ll think through the unsexy details: clearances, hinges, tracks, wiring and access for future maintenance.

Because the more seamless a custom feature looks when it’s finished, the more there usually is to figure out behind it. How will it open? Where does the hardware go? What needs power? Can we still get to it if something needs service five years from now?
Those are the details we enjoy working through.

An addition shouldn't announce that it's an addition. When we add onto a home, one of the goals is for the finished addition to feel like it was always there. That starts with more than matching siding or stone. We look at how the rooflines connect, the proportions and placement of the windows, floor levels, trim details and the way you move from the existing house into the new space.

On an older home, that can mean studying details that aren’t commonly used in new construction and figuring out how to carry them into the addition.

The transition matters inside, too. You shouldn’t walk from one room into another and immediately feel like you’ve entered the “new part” of the house.

A well-planned addition gives you the space your home was missing without making the house feel like two different projects joined together.

You probably don’t give a well-built staircase much thought. And that’s kind of the point. Everything should line up, every step should feel the same, and the finish work should be clean. When something’s off, you notice it right away.

There’s a lot more precision that goes into building stairs than most people realize. We’re the ones who like obsessing over those little details, so once it’s finished, you don’t have to think about them at all. That’s a big part of what good construction is supposed to do.
