🔥 The heat is on… but what's that smell?

If your furnace has been off for months, the first few minutes of heat can sometimes bring a dusty or musty smell along with it. That's because dust and debris can settle inside your system while it's sitting unused.

The good news? A brief dusty smell is usually nothing to worry about. It should disappear as your furnace runs.

But there are some smells you shouldn't ignore. 🚨
NORMAL:
✔️ Dusty or musty
✔️ Mild burning-dust smell
✔️ Brief “stale” smell

Not sure if your smoke detector is still good?
Take a few minutes to check for these warning signs:

🚨 The test button doesn’t work: Press and hold it for about 5 seconds. No alarm—or a very weak one with fresh batteries—means the unit may need to be replaced.

🔊 It keeps chirping: One chirp every 30–60 seconds can mean a low battery. Still chirping after a battery change and a good cleaning? The sensor may have failed.

💨 It’s constantly going off: Frequent false alarms caused by everyday humidity, steam, or small amounts of dust could indicate a compromised sensor.

📅 It’s 10 years old or older: Check the manufacture date on the back or rim. Most smoke detectors should be replaced after 10 years.

⚠️ It’s damaged: Cracks, missing battery covers, or yellowing plastic are good reasons to replace the unit.

A working smoke detector is one small but important part of a safer home. ❤️

When was the last time you tested your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors? 👀 If you have to stop and think about it… it might be time for a quick check!

Before you settle in for the weekend, take a few minutes to make sure your detectors are working properly and ready to alert you when it matters most.

🔋 Swap batteries twice a year and test your detectors regularly.

📍 Keep detectors in the right places:
• Smoke detectors: Inside bedrooms, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home
• CO detectors: Outside sleeping areas and on every level of your home
• Follow the manufacturer’s placement instructions and avoid placing detectors too close to vents, windows, or doors.
