Matthew was introduced to Peckham’s Pass the Mic program through his youth career coach as part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). He has also been involved in Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) programming and continues to seek every chance to grow both educationally and professionally.

Matthew recently stood in Washington, D.C. and shared his powerful story with Senator Elissa Slotkin. He spoke openly about the barriers he has faced, the opportunities that helped him move forward, and what young people truly need to succeed.

Moments like this remind us why we do this work—amplifying the voices of young people and connecting them with the support and opportunities they deserve.

This month, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the value of workplaces where everyone has the resources to contribute and succeed. Alvaro shares his personal journey of adapting to disability while building skills like learning English and preparing for employment. With the right support, including assistive technology such as screen readers and Braille displays, meaningful participation in the workforce becomes possible.

The story reflects how supportive employers can make a real difference by providing the tools needed for independence, productivity, and growth.

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we're proud to spotlight Ivis Hernandez-Merino, whose journey reflects the power of perseverance, family, and opportunity.

After immigrating from Cuba in 2006, Ivis began her career at Peckham in manufacturing. Years later, she returned and continued to grow. When an opportunity to take on a staff position arose, Ivis initially doubted herself. But with encouragement from her children, supervisors, and colleagues, she found the confidence to take the next step.

Today, her story is a powerful reminder that talent knows no boundaries, and that with the right support, individuals can achieve more than they ever imagined.

What an unforgettable evening! On September 24, we proudly celebrated Peckham's 50th Anniversary. A gala honoring five decades of creating opportunities, changing lives, and demonstrating the power of work. It was a special night filled with reflection, celebration, and gratitude for the people, partners, and supporters who have been part of our journey.
