🚨 HVAC TIP: THAT UV LIGHT IS INSTALLED WRONG — HERE’S WHY

A UV light isn’t useful simply because it’s turned on and glowing blue. Placement matters.

In this installation, the UV lamp is hanging vertically in the cabinet/plenum rather than being positioned to properly expose the evaporator coil and the surfaces where biological growth can develop.

A UV-C system needs the correct location, orientation, distance, and exposure time to accomplish what it was installed to do.

When a UV lamp is placed where it has limited direct exposure to the coil:

❌ Much of the UV energy isn’t being directed where it’s needed
❌ Parts of the coil can remain outside the effective UV exposure area
❌ The lamp may illuminate the surrounding cabinet without effectively treating the coil surface
❌ Simply having a bright UV lamp doesn’t mean you’re getting effective coil treatment
❌ Installation should follow the manufacturer’s required mounting position and clearance

UV-C is not a “hang it anywhere in the air handler” accessory. The goal is to position it so the UV energy provides adequate exposure to the intended target while also protecting wiring, plastics, insulation, and other components from unnecessary UV exposure.

And here’s the important part:

👉 You can’t judge a UV installation by whether the bulb is glowing. You have to look at what it’s actually illuminating and whether the installation meets the manufacturer’s requirements.

This is exactly why HVAC work is about more than changing parts. Installation, airflow, static pressure, coil condition and UV placement all matter.

🚨 LOOK AT THIS DUCTWORK — THAT LITTLE BOX IS NOT GOING TO FIX THE AIRFLOW PROBLEM! 🚨

Take a close look at this installation. You have multiple large ducts feeding into a very small transition/box. That restriction can create serious airflow issues.

Your HVAC system can have a perfectly good air handler and condenser, but if the ductwork can’t move the required amount of air, the system cannot perform the way it was designed to.

⚠️ A restricted duct system can lead to:

❌ High static pressure
❌ Reduced CFM and poor airflow
❌ Rooms that don’t get enough air
❌ Noisy or whistling ductwork
❌ Longer run times
❌ Higher energy bills
❌ Uneven temperatures
❌ Additional stress on the blower

Sealing that little box doesn’t make it properly sized. It may stop an air leak, but it doesn’t magically create the additional airflow capacity that’s needed.

Proper ductwork requires the correct sizing, transitions, fittings, return-air capacity, and airflow design for the equipment being used. Static pressure and airflow should be measured rather than simply guessing.
