Just bought a new build and staring at a backyard full of dirt?

Here's what a lot of new homeowners find out too late: the clock is already running. With a new build, you'll usually have about six months to a year to get your yard done. And if your HOA doesn't sign off on what goes in, you could be looking at fines and paying to redo the work.

So before anything gets installed, double-check your plans against your HOA requirements.

Make sure your new pavers match the existing ones. Make sure your setbacks off the wall are correct. And make sure every plant and tree you choose is HOA approved.

Doing this research early means you're not scrambling when the deadline gets close, and you're not paying twice for a backyard you had to tear out. A new yard should feel like the reward for buying the house, not a headache with a letter from the HOA attached.

Bare dirt, loose rocks, and a covered patio that looks out on nothing. If that's the view from your back door, you probably stopped going out there a long time ago.

This backyard started exactly like that. Dry, dusty ground nobody wanted to sit next to, and every windy day blew more dirt onto the patio.

So we gave it a real plan. Fresh artificial turf now runs from the edge of the patio all the way to the back wall, framed by clean, crisp borders and neat rock planter beds along the sides. A wall of green across the back turns a plain block fence into something that actually feels private.

The pretty backyard is the easiest thing to show you. What it takes to get there is the part nobody posts.

Most homeowners know the before all too well: tired grass, uneven dirt, and a backyard that turns into a dust bowl or a mud pit depending on the week. It's the space you look at from the window and never actually use.

This project started right there. Our crew tore out the old yard, cleared it down to bare ground, and spent the unglamorous hours prepping the base before a single paver went in. Then the large-format pavers went down, set with clean gravel joints, until the whole patio sat level and ready for real use.

That hidden prep is the reason a finished patio still looks right years later instead of shifting and cracking after the first season. The pretty part only lasts when the part you don't see is done right.
