Structural damage can show up during restoration work in ways most homeowners would never notice. Warped wood, bowed framing, or sinking concrete are often spotted first by restoration professionals because they see these issues every day on job sites.

Jon Willis, Emergency Recovery Coordinator at Paul Davis Restoration of Las Vegas, explains why homeowners should immediately contact their restoration contractor if they notice anything unusual during the process. Early documentation and evaluation can help identify serious problems before they get worse.

"Sam, Chris and Fabian were awesome. They were professional, on time and did a great job throughout the entire dreadful process of remediation from water damage. They cut out the ceiling of the living room and pulled out the tile of the upstairs bathroom. I was impressed of how clean they kept the areas.

Sam called everyday upon arrival just to let me know they were outside and they were always on time. They kept me in the loop of the project the entire time and I always knew what to expect."

Electrical safety becomes a major priority during any restoration project. Fans, dehumidifiers, air scrubbers, and standing water can all create risks if the space is not managed carefully.

Jon Willis, Emergency Recovery Coordinator at Paul Davis Restoration of Las Vegas, explains why homeowners should stay aware of trip hazards, spills, and electrical equipment during the restoration process. Safety stays the top priority from start to finish.

Q: What do you do to prevent mold growth after water damage?

A: Mold prevention starts with fast, thorough drying. We deploy high-capacity dehumidifiers, industrial air movers, and apply antimicrobial treatments to vulnerable surfaces to stop mold before it starts.

One of the most common questions after a fire is how long restoration will take.

The answer depends on the severity of the damage. A smaller fire, like a kitchen grease fire, may take around two to three months to fully restore. Larger or more complex losses involving multiple rooms can take much longer, sometimes up to a year.

There are several factors that affect the timeline. Insurance approvals, repair decisions, permits, and the scope of the work all play a role in how long the process takes.

Understanding that restoration is not immediate can help set realistic expectations and reduce frustration along the way.

Preparing your home for restoration work is just as important as the work itself.

You should expect dust, plastic containment barriers, and limited access to certain areas of your home. These steps are necessary to keep the work controlled and done properly.

Before the project starts, move personal items out of affected areas and allow the restoration team to set up their containment without interruption. This helps protect the rest of your home and keeps the process efficient.

It’s also important to be ready for some disruption to your daily routine. Restoration work takes time, and patience plays a big role in making sure everything is completed the right way.
