We are targeting early Wednesday, Feb. 25, to begin rolling the Artemis II rocket and spacecraft off the launch pad and back to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

The approximately 4-mile trek is expected to take up to 12 hours. Once back in the VAB, teams will install platforms to access the area of the helium flow issue. https://go.nasa.gov/3ZTDLjS

Reliability ✔️ Performance ✔️

Sandia engineers, along with National Nuclear Security Administration, conducted a series of stockpile tests in which inert units of the B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb were successfully carried and dropped by an F-35 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in evaluating the weapon’s performance.

“These B61-12 F-35A stockpile flight tests and captive carry flight test were the capstone accomplishment of a tremendous amount of planning and effort by those who were involved across not only Sandia, but many other agencies,” said Sandia’s Jeffrey Boyd, surveillance lead for the B61-12 and B61-13.

Artifact of the Week: Jeanne Vertefeuille TIME Magazine Cover

CIA Officer Jeanne Vertefeuille (1932-2012) led the internal team that ultimately brought Aldrich Ames, the most damaging mole in CIA history, to justice.

In the spring of 1985, an alarming number of people working as Agency assets collecting intelligence against the Soviet Union disappeared in rapid succession. Vertefeuille led the five-person investigative team tasked with finding out how this happened. An exhaustive review of records ultimately yielded the answer.

Ames, who was initially working in CIA’s Soviet division of counterintelligence, began spying for the USSR in 1985. He compromised numerous Soviet assets in exchange for large sums of money.

In 1995, TIME Magazine published an article about Vertefeuille and the mole hunt. This artifact is especially notable because the magazine cover featuring Vertefeuille was scrapped in favor of one focused on the federal budget crisis at the time.

On this day in 2001, a CIA team led by CIA operations officer Gary Schroen landed in Afghanistan's Panjshir River valley northeast of Kabul. The team arrived just 15 days after the 9/11 attacks and three weeks before the arrival of the first U.S. Special Forces teams. The mission: to launch U.S. operations against al-Qa'ida and its Taliban supporters.

Operation JAWBREAKER serves as a prime example of the extraordinary capacity of CIA and the broader U.S. government to respond swiftly and decisively in defense of the Nation.
