This past weekend, Sterling sponsored the 42nd Annual Capital District Chapter of New York State Society of Professional Engineers (Capital District NYSSPE) Scholarship Golf Tournament. Scholarships are awarded to high school students planning to attend an ABET accredited college engineering program. Sterling takes pride in supporting the next generation of engineering professionals.

On April 14th and April 15th, STERLING’s environmental scientist, Christina Bell, attended the New York State Wetlands Forum, Inc. (NYSWF) in Oswego, NY. This year’s topic was “Avoid, Minimize & Mitigate".

Presentation topics spanned from navigating regulations both federally and state-wide, to new technological advancements that can be incorporated into wetland field assessments, and how ethics and cultural resources coincide with the work completed in the field.

Christina also had the opportunity to see the Mucky Marsh In-Lieu-Fee (ILF) Site which was developed to mitigate wetland impacts within Ducks Unlimited’s Irondequoit-Ninemile Creek Service Area. This project consisted of 20.51 areas of wetland habitat and 12.50 acres of upland buffer. During the field trip, the planning, design, and permitting processes were shared as well as the construction methods used.

Christina enjoyed connecting with peers from across the state and is already looking forward to next year’s forum in Lake Placid, NY.

On April 14th through the 16th Avery Blake and Jadyn Baidoo-Davis attended the 2026 Annual NYS Organics Summit in Syracuse, NY. The event focused on the importance, challenges around, and experiences of composting related activities throughout New York State and beyond. A key focus of the 3-day summit were the challenges associated with permitting essential composting and food diversion systems throughout New York State.

Both Jadyn and Avery had the opportunity to tour Generate Upcycle Anaerobic Digester System and OCRRA (Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency). This system removes food waste and manure from the landfill cycle and converts it into usable energy. The OCRRA site sets the standard for high yield and high-quality composting capabilities from food waste, de-packaging by hand, and yard waste to affordable and profitable compost and mulch products used on a resident to industry scale.

Avery and Jadyn are excited to utilize their growing knowledge and experience from this Summit in applications that enhance the State’s capabilities in permitting and expanding food waste diversion tactics related to composting.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 ♻️ 🌳

Some of our Sterling staff participated in a roadside clean-up right down the road from our office. Walking less than 1000-ft, resulted in 5 bags of garbage.

This is a reminder that protecting our earth requires action and that even small actions can make a difference.
