I’m shipping off my first bulk order to a customer who sells beatiful hand blown glass ornanents. His customers wanted a way to display their ornaments year-round.

These ornament holders are the perfect size for ornaments up to 6”. The base can be removed for easy storage.

Feel free to reach out if you’re interested. These are just 3 color options. These can be painted or stained.

I have 3 classes scheduled for this week. If you’re interested in signing up, feel free to message me. I need a little time to get the supplies ready and get my workshop cleaned up and ready for classes. 🙂.

Hi ladies. After a couple months break, I’m back! I’ve added several classes to the calendar for June and July, as well as some “open shop” days where you can bring projects you’re working on and use my tools or ask for advice.

Please check out the Events page for more details, but here is a list of classes that I’ve posted. If you’re interested in specific classes but the timing doesn’t work for you, please message me directly so we can coordinate setting up another date. This business page won’t allow me to message you directly, so communicating is a bit of a challenge.

Tip of the week - warped wood!
When trees are cut down and the wood is dried, sometimes the wood will warp. When you are selecting wood for projects, you’ll want to hold the piece wood out in front of you, and look down the length of the wood. Flip the wood around so you can see it from the face of the wood and side of the wood. If the wood is warped, you’ll notice it’ll curve or twist.
If you’ve been to one of my classes, you’ve seen this piece of wood (the left piece in both pics). It curves quite a bit. Although you could use a piece like this and cut it into smaller pieces, it definitely wouldn’t work for a larger project. It’s definitely one to throw back on the woodpile at Home Depot.

Rather than sharing a tool or tip of the week, I thought I’d share a bit about myself this time.

My name is Karen, and I fell in love with woodworking back in my late 20s, after buying my first home. It was an old 50’s house (think pink kitchen counters and yellow bathtubs) and I started ripping out carpeting and installing baseboards with a hand saw and a hammer.

I enjoyed house projects so much that a few years later, I took some classes at a city college and learned about miter saws and nail guns and how they could make projects so much easier! At that point, I was hooked!
I mostly made smaller projects, like 2x4 shelving and repurposing old furniture, adding baseboards, and worked up to installing a tile floor and bamboo flooring. I made lots of mistakes (and still do!), but I learn new skills from each and every mistake. My dad, who was more into plumbing and electrical, was always willing to help with bigger projects and even helped me build a beautiful patio cover, even though we had no idea what we were doing. We just figured it out as we went.

Fast forward to today, I’m a mom of an (almost) teen and have worked as an accountant for almost 30 years! But last fall, I knew it was time for a change. Some friends were talking about making some Christmas decor and I offered to teach them. We found a cute Christmas tree and I showed them how to cut and build their trees. I had so much fun working with them, that’s when the idea of Empower Tools was born.

I know most women don’t get an opportunity to learn how to use tools, and it’s an intimidating thing to learn without having someone teach you. Once you’ve had a chance learn some of the basic tools and skills, it’s opens up your world on what you can make on your own.

It’s been so fun getting a chance to meet so many new women over the past couple months and share the fun of woodworking. ❤️
