So you need a new air conditioner. It’s a big investment so you go online to learn more to help you make the best decision for your home and family. Probably the first information you will learn about is how the size of you home is a deciding factor on what you will need. You will read about tonnage (not the weight of the unit, but how much air it can move to heat or cool your home) and kilowatts (think of that as the number of calories your unit will have to burn (electricity) to make you comfortable). The next thing most of us have to consider is budget. Here is where you may be best off spending more upfront to save big in the future. An interesting way to measure value is the SEER rating. That is Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. Equipment with higher SEER ratings is more expensive, but here is where spending more can save you more.
If the upgrade from 10 SEER to 16 SEER increases the cost of the system by $2500, you may be able pay that off in less then 2 years in lower energy bills. And it won’t take too many more years to pay off the whole cost with energy savings. The app is available on Google Play and is the Rheem Calcu Save.
Which brand do you buy? Rheem is our favorite brand for lots of reasons. Not least of all the 10 year warranty. And Rheem has engineered in lots of features that may be invisible at first glance, but save you money in shorter repair times and life of the unit. The AC or heat pump is on a non-metal base the protects it from weather and corrosion. It takes less screws to open the unit of for service (remember the clock is ticking while your tech is there) and strategically placing components for ease of repair.
