Mar Lan Construction started in business in 1999 in Lawrence, Kansas; but our story began long before then. The founding partners grew up in the construction industry, spending most of their adult lives working in both commercial and residential construction. The year 1999 would mark when the decision was made that our family-owned commercial construction company would be introduced. Our mission focuses on offering construction services geared specifically towards teaming with Owners and design firms. We feel strongly that this arrangement assures we understand the goals and expectations first hand. We are careful to balance keeping things simple while offering a very professional and technical approach. From conceptual design to project turnover, our honesty, integrity, and commitment to quality has held unwavering. We have had the privilege of building some of this area’s most prestigious construction projects. These projects cover a wide variety of industries and involve just about every type of construction known in the commercial industry.

The KUIP PH4 is moving right along with Job superintendent Marty Criqui and crews beginning the structural steel frame er****on process. We appreciate the solid coordination and teamwork to get the next phase of this project underway!

Exciting progress is happening at the PBPN Food Sovereignty Project! Job Superintendent Randy Frahm and crews have the exterior looking sharp, with asphalt now laid and utility work continues at the lagoon and piping for the holding tank. Inside, the finishing touches are taking shape, the carpet has been installed, final painting is nearly complete, commercial kitchen equipment is installed and connections are underway. Specialty work in the meat processing area has started. Great work by everyone helping move this project forward!

We’re proud to partner with the KU Endowment Association on the Crossing@KU retail space project!! Job Superintendent Brandon Abel and the crews have completed excavation for the building pads, installed under slab plumbing, poured and set the footings, and steel frame er****on for all three buildings is well underway. Off to a great start – good work team!

Things are moving right along with the Home Sweet Home Expansion project and nearing the finish line! Job superintendent Dan Connelly and crews are buttoning up the outside and have installed the turf for the outdoor dog runs. On the inside we are working through a few more finishes, with cabinets being set, and the decorative birch slats installed on the café side of the bar ~ we appreciate that thumbs up from the Hair of the Dog Café’s manager Abigale! Great efforts everyone!!

Great progress continues on the KUIP PH4 project, with another section of the floor being poured Tuesday! Hats off (of course please leave them on while on the site! 😉) to job superintendent Marty Criqui, project engineer Brian Butell, and our subcontractor partners for the skill, coordination, and effort that keep this project moving forward.

Progress is moving right along at the PBPN Food Sovereignty Project! Job superintendent Randy Frahm and the crews have been hard at work bringing the finishing touches together. The resinous epoxy flake flooring in the Mercantile is installed and looking great, decorative wall tile is now in place in the bathrooms, and the blue resinous epoxy flooring has been applied in the Finished Product area. Nice work team!

We’re grateful to The University of Kansas and KU Endowment for the opportunity to help restore the Pearson Fountain and bring new life to this beloved campus landmark. It’s an honor to play a part in preserving a piece of KU’s history for students, alumni, and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

Job superintendent Randy Frahm and crew are making great progress on the fire protection water tank for the PBPN Food Sovereignty project. This bolted steel water tank is designed to hold approximately 200,000 gallons of water, providing critical fire protection capacity for the site.
The tank is being assembled from factory-fabricated steel panels that are lifted into place and connected using a bolted construction process. Each panel section is aligned, gaskets and hardware installed then bolts are tightened in sequence to ensure a secure and durable tank shell. Great work everyone!!

Over this last summer, Kansas Athletics partnered with Mar Lan Construction for the renovation of the Naismith Room and the 2nd Floor Mezzanine at Allen Fieldhouse. Working closely with the Oak View Group and the design firm of Theil and Team, both spaces received a variety of upgrades enhancing the space and creating what is now the Naismith Club, a private social club, along with a new elevated coffee space for the KU Community. Kelly Hockey along with Matt Bell managed the efforts which resulted in fantastic looking projects. Congrats to all involved!
