Our Giddings & Lewis 5" Horizontal Boring Mill features a massive 108" travel and a 12-foot table, making it ideal for machining large, complex components with precision.

What makes this machine special isn't just its size — it's the fact that it's still going strong after all these years. Built with heavy-duty construction and made to last, our Boring Mill has been a dependable part of our shop for many years. It's a great reminder of why we invest in quality equipment to deliver precision, reliability, and performance our customers count on.

Its open table design and strategic placement also give us the flexibility to machine larger-than-normal parts that many other machines simply can't accommodate.

Some equipment stands the test of time, and this is definitely one of them!

That’s 117 lbs of 6061 Aluminum transformed through precision CNC machining — nearly 90% of the original material removed — leaving behind a finished component built to exact specifications. ✴️

🔷 Phase 1: Raw Material — A solid block of 6061 Aluminum weighing 131 lbs.

🔷 Phase 2: Mazak HCN-8800 Horizontal Mill — Removes the bulk of the material and establishes the primary features.

🔷 Phase 3: Mazak C-600 5-Axis Mill — Simultaneously machines multiple faces and complex geometries with exceptional accuracy, reducing setups and improving precision.

🔷 Phase 4: Mazak VCN530 Vertical Mill — Performs the final machining operations to complete the component.

🏆 Result: A 14-lb precision-machined component delivered to our customer’s exact specifications with the quality and accuracy they expect. 🤝

At the beginning of June, we had a great night celebrating the Pittsburgh Chapter NTMA 50th Apprentice Graduation and the Class of 2026!🎓

It was nice to spend the evening with the graduates, their guests, instructors, and others from the manufacturing industry recognizing the hard work and dedication it takes to complete the apprenticeship program. The weather was perfect, and it was great to see so many people supporting the next generation of skilled trade professionals.

👏 A special congratulations to our KP graduates, Quinten Puskar and Eli Sherbondy. We are proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to watching your continued success.⚙️ We would also like to recognize our own Merle Smith, who helps develop the skills and confidence of future manufacturing professionals through his role as an NTMA instructor.
