It's that time of year. I'm getting a lot of calls about the best way to get a lawn mower blade sharpened, so I thought I would do a quick post on it.
It's $15/blade to have it sharpened and balanced. If you just want to bring me the mower it's an extra $5 to take it off and put it back on. (Push mowers only, as of right now I'm not removing and installing riding mower blades.)
I always recommend trying to find something that won't scratch the mower that you can rest it on, or at least the handle on when you tilt it.
If it's a gas mower it's very important that you unplug the spark plug first. You just gently wiggle it off twisting back and forth just a little bit. It's also very important the air filter is facing up when it's tilted. Otherwise oil will get into the air filter. I recommend using a thick leather glove or something adequate to hold the blade with your other hand while you loosen the nut/bolt. They can be sharp enough to cut you. I also recommend using a marker a sharp tool rock anything to make a mark on the outside of the blade. It helps to take a picture to make sure that everything goes back together exactly the way it was, and not backwards your upside down.
If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment feel free to give me a call. There is a price list on the website as well.
