Smackover Lithium, a partnership between Standard Lithium Ltd. and Equinor ASA, announced a second commercial agreement for its South West Arkansas project on Monday.

The agreement will supply LG Energy Solution, a global manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries, with about 8,800 tons a year of battery-quality lithium carbonate. The carbonate is worth an estimated $1.5 billion over a 10-year period following the start of commercial production.

Smackover Lithium has signed its second binding offtake agreement for the South West Arkansas Project with LG Energy Solution, one of the largest global lithium-ion battery manufacturers, marking a key commercial milestone.

Under the agreement, LG Energy Solution will receive 8,000 metric tonnes per year of battery-quality lithium carbonate over 10 years following the start of commercial production.

Together with the Trafigura agreement announced in March, the Project has now secured the vast majority of its targeted customer offtake, demonstrating strong demand for partnering with Smackover Lithium and for domestic lithium produced in the United States. We continue to advance our plans for taking a Final Investment Decision later this year.

This agreement brings us another step closer to providing a long-term domestic supply of battery-quality lithium carbonate, fortifying critical mineral supply chains and supporting American energy security.

More than 9,000 feet below the surface, the Smackover Formation holds some of North America’s highest lithium brine concentrations.

Smackover Lithium’s Franklin Project in East Texas reported the highest average-grade lithium brine resource identified in North America at 668 mg/L of lithium.

Our projects are designed to responsibly develop this resource while supporting workforce development, local investment and long-term economic growth across the region.
