Horse Care 101: How to Check Your Horse’s Heart Rate ❤️🐴

A healthy adult horse’s resting heart rate is typically 24–44 beats per minute.

To check it:

🐴 Place your fingers under the jaw or use a stethoscope just behind the left elbow.

⏱️ Count the beats for 15 seconds and multiply by 4.
A heart rate that’s higher than normal at rest can be an early sign of pain, stress, illness, or colic. Knowing your horse’s normal baseline makes it easier to recognize when something isn’t right.

➡️ When in doubt, always contact your veterinarian.

Horse Care 101: Listening to Gut Sounds 🐴

Your horse’s gut can tell you a lot about their health. Healthy horses should have regular gut sounds on both sides of their abdomen, signaling that their digestive system is doing its job.

Getting familiar with what’s normal for your horse can help you recognize when something isn’t right, making it easier to know when it’s time to call your veterinarian.

A few minutes of listening today could make all the difference tomorrow. ❤️ Save this video as a reminder!

As horse people, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to always know more, ride better, and accomplish the next goal.

The best horse people aren’t the ones who have it all figured out, they’re the ones who never stop learning and always put their horse first. ❤️

Training and recovery aren’t two separate plans, they’re part of the same one. 👏

The time you invest after the ride is just as important as the time you spend in the saddle. Thoughtful recovery helps keep horses comfortable, performing their best, and doing what they love for years to come.

The goal of rehabilitation isn’t just getting a horse back to work, it’s helping them come back as strong, comfortable, and confident as possible. 🐴💪

With the right recovery plan, many horses return feeling better than ever. That often means combining careful veterinary guidance, progressive rehabilitation, conditioning, and when appropriate, advanced orthobiologic therapies to support the body’s natural healing process.

Recovery isn’t about rushing the timeline. It’s about giving your horse the best opportunity for long-term soundness and performance.

At Ardent, we’re committed to developing orthobiologic solutions backed by science, quality standards, and innovation to support veterinarians in helping horses recover and perform at their best.
