It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jack Sykes, one of the original founders of Summit Architects + Engineers.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Civil Engineering, Jack helped establish Summit in Pikeville, Kentucky, in 1977. With his knowledge of the newly implemented mining regulations at the time, he recognized a growing need for permitting assistance among the region’s mining companies.

Those services became the foundation of Summit’s work for many years and played an important role in establishing the firm’s presence throughout Eastern Kentucky. Jack’s knowledge, vision, and dedication helped lay the groundwork for the company Summit is today.

Nearly five decades later, the foundation he helped build continues through the people, projects, and communities Summit serves.

We are grateful for Jack’s contributions to our firm and to Eastern Kentucky. His legacy will forever remain a part of Summit’s story.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Jack’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

"Why do I need an Architect or Engineer?"
That's what most people ask when it comes to even the smallest of projects. Summit enjoys helping our community partners with projects that make a difference.

This past weekend, Fleming-Neon, KY had another Flash Flood. Our project at the Fleming-Neon Library made all the difference...this time!

We designed a flood barrier system that kept flood waters from damaging the newly renovated facility.

So, why do you need an Architect or Engineer? Because we help improve and protect communities and their citizens.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our retired employees and longtime members of the Summit family, Steve Tackett.

Steve dedicated 21 years to Summit, leaving a lasting impact on our company and the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him. We are incredibly grateful for his years of hard work, dedication, and friendship.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him during this difficult time. He will always be remembered as a valued part of the Summit family.

We had a wonderful time attending Harrison County’s Opening Day! It was great getting the opportunity to see and speak with so many staff members as they prepare to kick off another exciting school year.

We also enjoyed handing out some goodies and showing our appreciation for all the incredible educators and staff who work hard each day to make a difference in their schools and communities!

Thank you, Harrison County, for having us! Wishing everyone an amazing and successful school year ahead!

Today was our interns’ last day with us, so we had to send them off with ice cream!

We’ve truly enjoyed having them as part of the team this summer and watching them learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience along the way. We’re grateful for all their hard work and the energy they brought to the office.

Wishing each of them the very best as they head back to school and take on what’s next. We can’t wait to see all the great things they accomplish!

It's always a great opportunity to connect with education leaders from across the state, build new relationships, and catch up with our valued clients. We're grateful to be here, learning, sharing ideas, and strengthening the partnerships that help support Kentucky's schools. Looking forward to a great event and all the conversations ahead!

We had the opportunity to give our team, and the summer interns a tour of the new Harrison County High School construction site. It was exciting to showcase the incredible progress being made and provide a firsthand look at the construction process.

Experiences like this allow our team to see how planning, teamwork, and skilled craftsmanship come together to create something that will serve students and the community for generations to come. We are proud to help connect the next generation of professionals with real-world learning opportunities.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this experience possible. We can't wait to see the finished school and the positive impact it will have on Harrison County!
