Why pay more for super-durable powder coating, when a regular-durable powder coating comes out of the shop looking just as good?

The answer is weatherability.

After about a year, regular-durable powder coating will start to fade (left). Super-durable powder coating, however, is typically designed to maintain color and gloss for 5 years (right).

Three important things you need to know about the part you're powder coating:

1. Will it go indoors or outdoors?
2. Will it be exposed to cleaners or other chemicals?
3. What are the customer's expectations for color and gloss retention?

The answer to these questions *should* impact the kind of powder you're choosing for the part.

This Tour De Lincoln bike is entitled "Ride of Passage," and you can spot it at 27th and Sheridan. 😍

The first shot of it is from our blast shop, where we gave it some TLC a few years ago. We then applied IFS Coatings RAL 7003, and local artist Liz Shea-McCoy added the final touches.

Powder coating may not age uniformly across the part. 📣 The shadier the area, the longer your color and gloss will last.

If color and gloss are the first things to go as powder coating ages, it stands to reason that bright, glossy colors will age more noticeably than dark, matte ones. Just FYI.
