Today is Imagine a Day Without Water, an opportunity to consider just how much our daily lives depend on clean, reliable water and what it takes to protect it. From public health and the environment to local economies and resilient communities, reliable water systems are essential. Maintaining them requires continued investment, informed policy, and attention to the challenges facing our water infrastructure.

These issues are also at the center of a recent Water Environment & Technology article by BETA’s Peter Garvey. Peter explores several topics shaping the future of clean water, including infrastructure funding, PFAS, water reuse, biosolids, and wastewater system protection, as well as how the water sector can help inform the policies and investments surrounding them.

BETA’s Joe McLoughlin, LSP, will be presenting at the Northern New England Planning Conference next week in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Join Joe and representatives from the Southwest Region Planning Commission and Adaapta for “Brownfields Programs & Supporting Studies: What You Need to Know.” The session will explore how brownfields assessment programs, redevelopment studies, and funding resources can help communities better understand underutilized properties, identify opportunities, and advance sites toward beneficial reuse.

How can a regional approach help communities turn Safe Streets for All strategies into meaningful, implementable safety improvements?

Next week, BETA’s Jaklyn Centracchio, PE, PTOE, Anna Sangree, AICP, RSP, and Srilekha Murthy, AICP, will join representatives from MVPC and SECOG at the New England APWA 2026 Fall Conference for “One Region, Many Roads: A Regional Approach to Safe Streets for All.” This moderated panel will explore how SS4A works in practice at a regional scale, including how engagement strategies can be scaled to support equitable, implementable safety outcomes across an entire region.
