How to Keep an Eye on Your Propane Tank

Some customers might not realize that propane tank gauges don’t read like a gas tank in a car. Here’s how to understand yours so you never run out and don’t order way too early:

1. 80% = a Full Tank
Propane expands with temperature, so tanks are never filled to 100%.
When your gauge reads 80%, that tank is completely full.

2. Anything Above 50% Is Actually Closer to 65% Full
Because 80% is considered “full,” the numbers below it scale differently.

For example:
• A gauge reading 50% is really about 62–65% full
• A gauge reading 40% is really about 50% full

So don’t panic if you see 50% — you still have plenty of fuel.

3. Call Us Around 35%
Once your gauge gets down around 35%, that’s the perfect time to schedule a fill.
This keeps your home safe, avoids running out during cold weather, and ensures consistent heat and hot water.
