Founded in 1992 by Tom Arkins; offering general contracting, construction design, and custom millwor Arkins Construction has developed an extensive portfolio.

For one project, the complete renovation of a large early 20th century home, the Arkins crew gutted the building, and Tom Arkins redesigned the entire house. Other recent work includes both residential and commercial projects, such as the design and renovation of a law office situated in an antique barn.

Happy Earth Day from the Arkins Construction Team. This project reflects a thoughtful balance of preservation and performance—where a Colonial-era post and beam home was carefully reworked to integrate modern systems without losing its original character.

With a full solar energy system supplying 100% of the home’s power and a green roof supporting year-round efficiency, the result is a house that embraces both tradition and innovation while minimizing its environmental impact.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with the incredible Moore House Design team on this Newport renovation in the Historic Point District featured in Spring Issue. Their thoughtful vision guided the transformation of this early 1900s home—honoring its historic character while shaping it for modern family living.

As the custom builder and general contractor, our team helped bring that vision to life through a full renovation of the first floor, an expanded primary suite, and the ex*****on of custom details throughout—including the library snug’s millwork and built-ins. Set just steps from the harbor, this project reflects a shared commitment to craftsmanship, collaboration, and respect for Newport’s architectural legacy.

Just a few hundred years in the making…

1200-1400s- Aging heart pine (old growth yellow pine)
1800s- Fall River textile mill for over 100 years
1993- Saved from a project demolition
1994- Loaded and shipped to Ireland (with the help of some familiar faces)
2026- Planed down to finished flooring
