🎒 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! 🚌
As students across the country head back to the classroom, we are reminded that some of the most important signs on our roads are the ones we often take for granted — School Zone and School Crossing signs.

The familiar yellow school crossing sign has a long history in American road safety. The original school warning signs were standardized in the mid-20th century as part of an effort to give drivers a consistent visual warning that children could be present near the roadway.

Over time, the technology behind those signs has changed dramatically.

🟡 From Yellow to Fluorescent Yellow-Green
Traditional yellow reflective sheeting served us well for decades. But as traffic volumes increased and safety research advanced, transportation agencies began looking for ways to make school-related signs stand out even more.

That led to the growing use of fluorescent yellow-green (FYG) sheeting for school zones, school crossings, pedestrian crossings, and other high-attention applications.

The fluorescent yellow-green color provides significantly greater visual conspicuity than traditional yellow, particularly during daylight conditions and against complex backgrounds. It essentially tells the driver's eye: “PAY ATTENTION — SOMETHING IMPORTANT IS HERE.”
