Why do construction crews hoist a final beam into place with signatures, a tree, and a flag? Let's talk about this fun tradition.

It’s called a Topping Out Ceremony. A builders’ tradition celebrating the placement of the final beam at the highest architectural point! Last week, Insight Engineering celebrated this milestone at the new North Little Rock Middle School alongside our incredible project partners.

What do the symbols mean? Let’s break it down!

🏗 The Signed Beam: A permanent piece of the structural backbone, signed by the owners, designers, and builders.

🌲The Evergreen Tree: Placed at the highest point to honor the land, symbolizes growth and good luck, bringing prosperity to future occupants.

🇺🇸 The Flag: Represents national pride and marks the safe completion of the building’s structural framing phase.
