SPP is honored to partner with Electric Power Engineers (EPE) on the first release of EPE's Flexible Automation Simulation Toolset (FAST) for transmission studies.

FAST combines advanced automation with AI to help system operators and utilities manage the growing volume and complexity of planning, economic interconnection and operational studies. This initial release includes elements tailored to SPP's processes and high-volume study requirements as we prepare for future load growth.

We're proud to collaborate with EPE on a tool that will help shape the future of grid planning.

Each month, SPP employees select a local or national organization to support. For October, we're proud to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and its mission to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.

Throughout the month, SPP employees will be raising funds for St. Jude and hosting a variety of events on campus to support the organization and the children and families it serves.

SPP’s People, Resilience, Information, Diversity and Expression (PRIDE) business resource group recently brought employees together for a Positivity and Resilience Training with Dr. Keneshia Bryant-Moore, an Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health.

Through conversation and activities, attendees explored ways to build resilience into everyday life through physical and emotional wellness.

Thank you to Dr. Bryant-Moore and PRIDE for creating space for meaningful conversation and learning around an important part of employee well-being.

SPP announced two key leadership appointments today that will help advance the organization’s strategy and position SPP to continue meeting the growing energy needs of its members.

David Kelley, currently senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer, will be promoted to executive vice president and chief financial and strategy officer.

Kimberly Lindsey O’Guinn, currently senior director of state regulatory policy, will be promoted to vice president of regulatory and stakeholder affairs.

SPP Vice President of Engineering Casey Cathey recently joined Jerry Bohnen on the MitchellTalks podcast to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the electric grid.

As energy consumption continues to grow, Casey shared how SPP is preparing for increasing demand while maintaining reliability. The conversation also covered large loads, aging infrastructure, grid investment and the more than 320 transmission projects approved across SPP’s region.

SPP and California Independent System Operator (CAISO) submitted their joint report to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) outlining a coordinated approach to addressing future market seams issues across the Western Interconnection.

The report identifies six near-term objectives focused on strengthening coordination as electricity markets continue to evolve.

SPP and CAISO will continue working closely with each other and stakeholders across the West to advance the priorities identified in the report.

SPP and the California ISO (CAISO) will jointly host the fourth Market Seams Workshop on Oct. 22 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The session will build on discussions from the previous three workshops, with a focus on the roadmap and next steps for market seams. Participants will also discuss the joint report under FERC Docket No. AD26-10-000, including the plan and next steps going forward.

Registration is available for both in-person and online participation. Register to take part in the discussion as SPP and CAISO explore opportunities to improve coordination across markets.
