Earlier this week, Spiniello Companies hosted a site visit to highlight the ongoing work to bring new life to one of the regionās most critical wastewater assetsāthe Potomac Interceptor (PI). This pipeline segment includes a 78-inch gravity sewer operating under live-flow conditions, conveying approximately 60 MGD from as far west as Dulles Airport to the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility in Washington, DC. The PI is a vital component of the regionās wastewater infrastructure.
Installed in 1963 and now exhibiting corrosion in several sections, the PI is undergoing a major structural renewal effort. TYLin as engineer, oversaw the preparations to slip-line 800 LF of the interceptor located within National Park Service (NPS) property along the Clara Barton Parkwayāan area that requires careful coordination and planning. This week marked a key milestone as Spiniello began slip-lining the 800 LF segment with 72-inch HOBAS FRP pipe, extending the interceptorās useful life by an estimated 150 years while increasing hydraulic capacity.
It was a pleasure reconnecting with familiar colleagues and seeing firsthand what collaboration, partnership, and strong industry relationships can achieve. The āMission Focusedā demonstrated commitment, ingenuity and teamwork displayed are driving this important infrastructure improvement forward.
Thank you to DC Water, WSSC, TYLin, Hobas Pipe USA, Kennedy Jenks, Brown & Caldwell, JMT, GFT, Stantec, Mott MacDonald and the many other key infrastructure regional experts who joined us for this event.
