🛠️ Did you know the oil change is the one maintenance task that hands you free evidence?
In the same 20 minutes it takes to put clean oil in your engine, you get two things most pilots throw away:
✅ A bottle of used oil that a lab knows how to read ✅ A filter you can cut open and read with your own hands
The difference between an oil change that produces evidence and one that only produces a clean engine is the order of the steps:
1️⃣ Warm up the engine — hot oil carries the contamination in suspension 2️⃣ Drain into a clean pan and take the sample mid-flow (not the first splash, not the last drips) 3️⃣ Keep the old filter to cut it open — never toss it in the trash, that's where the evidence goes 4️⃣ Open the filter like a book and read it: fine gray powder is normal; flakes, chips or shiny particles are not 5️⃣ Install the new filter by hand, no wrench, and the plug with a new crush washer 6️⃣ Log everything in your records and mail the sample the same day
⚠️ Found metal in the filter? Stop. Photograph the inside, keep the filter and the sample, and call your certified A&P mechanic. No additives, no "let's see what happens." VolamusApp keeps your records, photos and lab reports organized — but the call on the engine always belongs to the certified professional.
