IS YOUR ROOF WINTER READY?
We have a small chance of snow this week/weekend but a greater chance of rain and freezing temps... below are a few things to look for to prevent a rough winter season.
1. Inspect the Roof for Visible Damage
- Finding obvious damage is the first step in maintaining a winter roof. Search for cracked, missing, or loose shingles, as well as any damage to other roof components.
2. Clear the Gutters and Downspouts
- One of the main reasons winter roof damage occurs is clogged gutters. Water may seep inside your house and back up beneath shingles from these ice jams. Clear your gutters and downspouts before winter arrives to help to avoid this.
3. Check Attic Insulation and Ventilation
- Maintaining a healthy roof in winter depends on appropriate attic insulation and ventilation. Insulation should cover all ceiling material between joists. Good ventilation guarantees that air flows through the attic, as your attic should have proper ventilation to help you maintain a safe, healthy home.
4. Inspect Flashing Around Chimneys and Vents
- Flashing might degrade with time, causing leaks. Look over the flashing of your roof for any damage, gaps, or corrosion during your walkaround.
