In June of 2021, two Viskase employees began an initiative to form comradery with fellow employees and have fun! Patryk Kubera, a warehouseman, also the team captain, and Kamil Wiśniewski, the Production Planning Specialist formed a company football team. The team that practices twice a week with weekend friendlies and/or other competitions is comprised of 24 players of which 16 are Viskase employees.

The team, who is supported by friends and family, plays teams that in most cases are similarly affiliated or representing by other companies from the area. Recently the team played in a local community tournament where out of eight teams, they placed first. The Tournament for the Cup of Jeżewo (Turniej o Puchar Sołtysa wsi Jeżewo) is only one of the competitions planned for this year. In September, the team will take part in the Family Sunday League competition which is one match per weekend.

When asked what the best part of playing on the Viskase team is, team captain Patryk Kubera said “The integration between players and excellent team spirit which then translates into cooperation at work.” And obviously, “the joy that comes from great progress and results.”

Viskase Poland Sets Sail
After almost three years of Covid related restrictions limiting social gatherings, administration employees at Viskase Poland had a chance to gather for a common cruise on the Odra River. During the May 22nd event, Wroclaw employees took part in a boat party where they had a chance to enjoy food, dancing, contests, and even a quiz on Viskase knowledge!

What a great way to uphold the Viskase Value Collaboration & Teamwork through celebrating with teammates and building better relationships.

DDI (Soft Skills) Training in Brazil
Last month, 21 current and future leaders from Viskase Brazil participated in four training courses over two days to develop leadership competencies. The team engaged in great discussions about skills and how to apply them throughout the work day. The four courses offered were: Communication, Leader Coach, Conflict Resolution in the Work Environment, and Delegation. While many leaders have the knowledge and tools to apply these skills, it was a great opportunity to reinforce them and apply the skills in practice. To apply these skills the participants engaged in discussions and activities to test the acquired knowledge.
The next step for this group will be to determine what skills they utilized after participating in the training and to ensure these skills continue to be used in their day-to-day activities.

Reducing Environmental Impact While Obtaining Good Health

As we begin the new year Viskase Germany has implemented a new program to promote good health and reduce environmental impact. Through JOBRAD®, Viskase hopes to contribute to climate protection and reduce traffic congestion through sustainable mobility management. Employees at this location can now lease a bicycle at a low rate.

Employees choose their desired bike at a local bike shop or online, with no limitation on manufacturers or brands. Viskase then leases the company bike for the employee. The bicycle is insured and may also be used as a personal bicycle. After 3 years, the employee can buy the bike at a residual value or lease a new bike.

Every year, winter in Viskase Poland is a period of gifts, helping the needy and uniting the team.

As in years prior to 2021, Viskase Poland began the season with a collection for the "Szlachetna Paczka" charity. This Polish charity sends parcels of necessities to families in need. This year, employees from the Viskase Poland branches chose which needy family to support. In addition to the standard money collection, a lottery was organized for Viskase employees. Viskase employees who donated could win attractive Viskase promotional items while helping the needy. Thanks to the commitment of our employees and the support of our business partners, Viskase managed to collect over 4700 PLN and many necessary items for the family.

Upon the completion of the charity collection, the annual art contest for the youngest children of Viskase Poland employees began. This year's theme was "Santa Claus Vertigo" - the children showed a lot of creativity, as seen in the photos. Each submitted piece was characterized by an exceptionally high artistic level, and all participants received prizes and commemorative diplomas.

As reported by Elves, all employees of Viskase Poland were exceptionally good in 2021, so for Christmas they were visited by Santa Claus himself, along with small gifts that brought fun and smiles to the faces of the team.

After the Christmas events, Viskase Poland started the year by supporting SIEMACHA24 association, which takes care of children and youth from families that are unable to provide them with safety and care. Viskase Poland donated 20 packages full of sweets.

In a continuing effort to reduce utilities, energy usage and CO2 emissions our Sustainability Team for Energy & Water was hard at work in 2021. The team, which consists of cross-plant engineers: Evan Grimes, Jérémy Noel, Mateusz Gniecki, Andreas Willers and Florian Koch works continuously to improve global sustainability.

Due to their great efforts and collaboration with Plant Managers and Engineers, Viskase has reduced emissions at many locations. In one location alone, improvements have led to a reduction of 7,000 kWh and 2.700 tons of water improving efficiency by 42%!

Plant initiatives include:
• Improving energy tracking infrastructure
• Detection of compressed air leakage
• Focusing and defining huge energy & water consumers

The overall reductions were:
~ 13,000 MWh of natural gas / 2.600 tons of CO2 per year.
~ 329,000 kWh of electricity / 153 tons of CO2 per year.
~ 55,000 tons of water plus additional reduction not defined due to the consumption awareness of energy and water. Viskase continues to work on efficiency as a commitment to our core value of SUSTAINABILITY, which states

On December 4, Scott Gray, Global Health and Safety Manager, Dennis Brennan, Director of Global Engineering/Operations Manager Americas and Aaron Schoenike, Loudon Plant Controller represented Viskase by volunteering to serve water at a station in a marathon and half marathon.

The challenging race featured a marathon, half marathon or 5K. The Marathon started in Lenoir City, TN and ended in Loudon, TN. Runners experienced grand views of countryside, rivers as they cross bridges, and hometown hospitality like that offered by Scott, Dennis and Aaron.

Proceeds from the event went to the Loudon County Education Foundation which was founded in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is dedicated to residents of all ages and invests in education in Loudon County by enriching lifelong learning, encouraging professional development and emphasizing business and community participation in education.

Employees at our Thaon, France location now have a new opportunity to share and interact with coworkers through a Book Box. The box offers books to all employees, employees may freely borrow any book and even suggest titles/authors they would like to see in the Book Box. What started out as 23 books, grew to 100 in a short period of time with employees even donating books from their own collections.

The Thaon team is discovering each other’s tastes and opinions about their favorite stories which is creating a good dynamic in which employees are curious to discover new things that they would not have previously thought to explore.

As Viskase is sensitive to eco-sustainability, all books are second hand. What a great way to embrace two of the Viskase Values: COLLABORATION & TEAMWORK and SUSTAINABILITY.
