A new report by cannabis data and analytics firm Headset projects that the U.S. cannabis industry could reach a $45.8 billion market potential by 2025. The firm estimates in its “Cannabis Sales Projections for US Markets in 2025” report that Florida will be the nation’s second-largest market — behind California — with $3.2 billion in total sales.

CA Governor Gavin Newsom just shared in a recent budget proposal that he would support a restructuring of the state’s cannabis tax structure. The governor “supports cannabis tax reform and plans to work with the Legislature to make modifications to California’s cannabis tax policy to help stabilize the market,” according to his proposal.

Medical cannabis is now allowed for terminal patients in California. “The Compassionate Access to Medical Cannabis Act,” or “Ryan’s Law,” was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in September and is now in effect as of January 1st. The legislation was named after Ryan Bartell, who passed away from pancreatic cancer. His father, Jim Bartell, began lobbying for the change after he witnessed how much cannabis had improved his son’s end of life. Bartell hopes the new law will help other families and their loved ones ease the pain of illness.

What a crop! A leafly.com report found cannabis to be 2020's fifth most valuable crop in the United States, behind only corn, soybeans, hay and wheat.

Although still federally illegal, cannabis ranked number one in value in Alaska, Colorado, Massachusetts, Nevada and Oregon. Of all of the 11 states analyzed, it ranked no lower than 5th place.
