Ethylene oxide has been used for soil sterilization by introducing it under reduced pressure to containers holding the soil in pots or trays. That was an advert from a drug store in New York probably when people still used horses and carriages to get around. To be CLEAR, Arsenic is deadly! Like, it's used as a poison to kill. Products in the regulated market are tested for Arsenic. Just FYI - Arsenic poisoning, or arsenicosis, occurs after the ingestion or inhalation of high levels of arsenic. Arsenic is extremely poisonous to humans. What makes arsenic especially dangerous is that it doesn’t have a taste or odor, so you can be exposed to it without knowing it.

One of the metals we test for is Cadmium. In short, enough of this stuff will kill you and it won’t be pretty.

Cadmium is a metal that is found in rocks and soil and is absorbed into all plant material. When eaten, large amounts of cadmium can severely irritate the stomach and cause vomiting and diarrhea. Breathing high levels of cadmium damages the lungs and can cause death. Low level exposure builds up in the kidneys over time and causes kidney disease.

Thankfully, the state of California requires that we test for the presence of Cadmium and sets what is considered safe limits of exposure. Be sure to get your products through the legal market!
