Fourteen months of flawless generator starts is the least that you ought to expect from critical infrastructure. But how about 10 years - without having to touch it once?

While a typical lead-acid setup demands battery replacements every 1 to 3 years and regular electrolyte top-offs, the high-performance battery inside the 8Z lasts much longer, completely maintenance-free.

Here is the math on that difference over a decade:

With lead-acid you have 4 replacements, ongoing technician truck rolls for manual watering, and a standalone charger to wire up.
โžก๏ธ Totaling roughly $17,800 to own.

With our SuperTorque 8Z: One factory-integrated system, zero maintenance calls, and a full 10-year warranty that guarantees the unit handles the workload.
โžก๏ธ Totaling $8,500.

Opting for a factory-packaged starting system protects your uptime, all while cutting your total cost of ownership by 52%.

The massive but variable power demands of AI data centers require re-engineering the entire powertrain. It is a subject we feel strongly about at SENS, which is why were inspired by a particular panel discussion this week at the 7x24 Exchange International 2026 Spring Conference:

"๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐€๐ˆ ๐š๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐„๐๐ ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐†๐ซ๐ข๐: ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐€๐ซ๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‘๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ" with Philip Fischer (Black & Veatch), Joshua Fluecke (Syska Hennessy Group), Douglas Golden (Core Scientific) and Brad Witter (Generac), moderated by Generac's Emanuele Mule.

There was a lot to digest, but in short: AI needs more than just "more power". It has injected the whole dynamic of data center design with tremendous uncertainty:
>> Transient loads fluctuating by tens of MW within seconds
>> Planning challenges due to a lack of historical AI load data
>> Rapid change: trying to plan for a moving target
>> Application variability: there is no universal data center architecture

There may be no one-size-fits-all solution, but a systems approach can eliminate some of the uncertainty in data center design compared to a piecemealed approach.

At SENS, system integration is one of our core competencies, right alongside manufacturing. Every product we build is driven by a clear purpose: meeting our customersโ€™ most critical power needs.

Several months into his role as CEO, Stamenkovic is already leaving a clear mark on how we think about our products and our customers. Rather than leading from a distance, he's embedded in conversations about integration, control logic, and the real-world demands our customers face - the kind of detail-oriented leadership that reflects his background driving innovation across the power systems industry.

"The industry is moving fast toward smarter, more integrated systems," Igor said. "SENS has the expertise and legacy to lead that shift - and it all starts here with the people building our products."

It's exciting to see this focus on innovation while staying true to the reliability SENS is known for. Igor's vision is clear: evolve our power solutions to meet tomorrow's demands.

The rush to scale AI infrastructure has forced many to reconsider everything from chips to liquid cooling loops. Yet the final line of defense - backup engine starting - was frequently left as an afterthought. But not anymore.

Packaged engine starting and backup power systems move integration headaches off the job site and into a controlled factory environment. If you are heading to Orlando for the 7x24 Exchange International 2026 Spring Conference, letโ€™s look at the math behind this shift.

Kaizen doesn't happen in a conference room. It happens on the floor, in the moment, with the people doing the work. That's exactly where our team spent our quarterly Kaizen event: out on the line, tackling the physical friction points of our expansion to a new facility head-on.

Moving materials between buildings is a heavy logistical puzzle. We went straight to the source, remapping warehouse locations and streamlining kitting to ensure parts move seamlessly from the storeroom to the production line.

Kaizen is a Japanese term that can be roughly translated as โ€œcontinuous improvement,โ€ and is the method that forms the core of our lean manufacturing culture.

The 8Z and 8R lines are getting the biggest overhaul during this transition. We are rebalancing the workflow and overhauling battery handling ergonomics to increase capacity while making the actual labor safer for the team.

Davy Schick, our Manufacturing Engineering Director, who is also a fan of Kaizen principles, keeps the focus on the people doing the work:

"Ultimately the goal is also to make things easier for our operators too. By making things easier we also improve safety, quality, customer OTD, efficiency, profitability, and much more."

We spend millions optimizing data center server racks for high-density AI workloads, only to trust the uptime of the entire facility to a loose-piece starting system. This is a major vulnerability in infrastructure design.

In a recent article, our CCO, Olen Scott breaks down how shifting from loose-piece construction to factory-tested, integrated starting systems removes this field risk, ensuring the backup power actually functions when a critical workload drops.

This is how "heading to the office" sometimes looks like for our crew on the ground. Cassten Everidge and Tony Crandall got a heavy dose of engine starting in Texas, putting a Waukesha natural gas engine through its paces with the SuperTorqueยฎ 8R rack system.

Our guys for the job know: reliability is a math problem we solve with layers. This 8R was kitted with 4x SuperTorque 8Zs, our Best Battery Selector (BBS), and the BCS-120 control system.

Large engines can be started with just two 8Zs, but we installed four for 100% redundancy. If one side of the system is compromised, the other still delivers the full velocity needed to get that generator online.

Proving that the starting system is as resilient as the facility it protects is why we build for the worst-case scenario.
