August 11 is National Call Before You Dig Day. ⚠️⛏️

811 is the free, federally-designated number to call before any digging project, big or small. Once you call, utility lines in your area get marked, so you know what's underground before you start. It takes just a few minutes and could prevent a serious accident. Play it safe: always call Mississippi 811, Inc. before you dig.

That big green box in the yard is a pad-mounted transformer, not a bus stop. It carries serious voltage, so kids should never sit on it, lean against it, or set backpacks nearby while waiting for the bus. Give it a few extra feet and stay safe. 🚌🔌

Your refrigerator and freezer work hard all year, but summer heat can make them work even harder. Keep coils clean, check door seals for gaps, and make sure there's room for air to circulate around the unit. Small habits add up to real savings on your energy bill. ❄️💰

Every little bit helps!

Ethan Laird, a third-year Electrical Engineering student in the Bagley College of Engineering school at Mississippi State University, spent his summer as an intern at Southwest Electric, gaining valuable hands-on experience alongside our full-time engineers and apparatus crew.

From working in the field and inside our substations to assisting with preventative maintenance and supporting our line crews, Ethan played an important role in helping us maintain the reliability our Members depend on.

We’re proud to invest in the next generation of electric utility professionals and appreciate Ethan’s hard work and dedication. We wish him continued success as he returns to Mississippi State this fall!
