After days of tornado and storm restoration efforts, Southwest Electric linemen regrouped today for lunch, a damage debriefing and time to clean and restock trucks before continuing the work ahead. We appreciate the dedication and teamwork these crews show every day while serving our Members and communities.

12:00 p.m. update: Work is continuing on the Garden City and Perrytown areas, and various scattered outages.

We would like to thank the Member who delivered pizza, chips and water to our crews in the Perrytown area. When we go through a difficult time, community is what keeps us all going. You have a given a boost to the crews and they really appreciate it! đź’š

Please pray for our crews out in the field and support personnel in the office.

8:30a.m.: We have 255 meters without power. Crews are still working to repair the damage from the recent tornado and storms. This video shows a total rebuild of one mile of three phase power lines in the Garden City area. Every pole with cross-arms had to be replaced and wire pulled. This has taken an army of crews to do, and they will continue the work until our Members have power at their homes.

Thank you for your patience during this difficult time for the community.

8:30a.m: We have 2,501 meters without power. The assessment crews have found 66 broken poles and numerous cross-arms. While we are still battling the damage from the Garden City tornado, we now have scattered outages from last night’s storm.

Our crews are working hard to repair damage. This is tough work in wet, muddy conditions with trees and debris everywhere.

Crews assisting us are from:
Delta Electric Power Association
Twin County Electric Power Association
Killen Contractors
MDR Powerline Construction
Good Hope Inc.
Southern Tree
RW Delaney Construction Co.

We appreciate your patience and continue support and prayers for all personnel working out in these conditions, dispatching and keeping crews safe, and those supporting with meals and deliveries of equipment and material.

The US National Weather Service Jackson Mississippi has confirmed that our service area was hit with an EF3 tornado that was on the ground for over 30 miles and had 136 mph winds.

The damage is catastrophic. We still cannot access some of our power lines or see where some of them used to be because they are gone or buried in debris.

Crews are out working in full force to assess more damage and repair what they can reach.

6:30 p.m. update: We have 399 meters without power in four counties. The crews will continue to work until around 9:00 p.m. and then will be sent home for necessary rest. The damage is extensive, as you can see in the pictures.

**********
3:00 p.m. update: We started this morning with 1,193 meters without power. We now have 583 in seven counties:
Adams 187
Amite 25
Copiah 3
Franklin 298
Jefferson 1
Lincoln 4
Wilkinson 65

In a portion of our service area, some of the roads are blocked with fallen trees and other debris and some of them cannot be seen due to the extent of the damage.

We are continuing to assess damage as crews work to make repairs in the areas they can reach. We have many broken poles, many broken cross-arms and miles of powerlines down.

The power restoration effort is going to take several days. Thank you for your patience.

**********
Last night’s storm left heavy damage in its wake. A predicted tornado has severely damaged our service area. We have scattered outages in eight of our nine counties. Personnel are out in full force assessing damage and reporting back to the dispatch team. We are receiving reports that some areas are inaccessible and roads are blocked.

Power restoration may take several days. Our SmartHub app will be updated as information becomes available.

Sister cooperative crews and contract crews have been called to assist us:
Delta Electric Power Association
Twin County Electric Power Association
Killen Contractors
MDR Powerline Construction
Good Hope Inc.
Southern Tree

Thank you for your patience as we assess damage and work through the restoration steps.

An equipment issue inside the Crosby substation has been found and our personnel will de-energize the substation around 4:00 pm to make the repairs. This necessary work will be completed as quickly and safely as possible. We do not anticipate the outage to last longer than two hours.

This will affect areas north of Gloster, around the Buffalo area, along Perrytown Road, and the Homochitto Community.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.

We were proud to be one of the sponsors for the Nathan Steele Foundation’s annual s***t shoot. It was a great day filled with friendly competition, fellowship and a meaningful way to honor a special legacy.

We were honored to welcome Commissioner De'Keither A. Stamps to our Lineman Appreciation Breakfast today. It was a great opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of our crews who keep the lights on every day.

Following breakfast, our team participated in a safety meeting focused on pole top rescue and aerial device rescue procedures. This is critical training that helps ensure everyone goes home safe.

We appreciate Commissioner Stamps taking the time to visit and support our linemen and our ongoing commitment to safety.
