Jim's Electric Motor

Jim's Electric Motor Jim's Electric Motor Company Inc. opened for business on April 1st, 1983. In doing this, we have grown from two employees, to over twenty-five.

Since then, it has been our goal to provide the best quality service, workmanship and products to our customers. This growth prompted our move to our current location, in January 1995, where we continue to grow. As we have grown, the range of services we are able to offer our customers has also grown. We are constantly striving to serve all of your electric motor, electric control, electrical contracting & pump needs.

Pumps have been around for centuries. The earliest were used in windmill or watermills. Electrical pumps have advanced much over the years and are now used in a variety of ways including air conditioning systems, refrigeration, and much more.

Until the invention of electric motors that used alternating current, direct current electricity was dominant. Alternating current became the standard because it could be transmitted over longer distances with no loss of energy.

Hydraulic motors are marvels of ingenuity and innovation, and they’re critical components in a variety of equipment. Unlike purely mechanical devices, hydraulic motors require relatively little power in order to deliver significant rotational force at moderate, steady speeds.

Did you know that some electric motors can also be used as generators? For example, a traction motor on a car can perform the tasks of both.

The automotive sector accounts for nearly 35 percent of all fractional horsepower (FHP) sales, as these motors are used for electric windows, windshield wipers, powered seats and mirrors, central locking systems, roof openers, and trunk openers.

The first electric energy converted to mechanical energy occurred in 1821. A demonstration performed by Michael Faraday contained a hanging wire with an attached magnet in a pool of mercury. Faraday then passed a current through the wire which caused the wire to circle the magnet.

Did you know that an EC motor operates because of the way in which two separate magnetic fields "talk" to each other? Pretty amazing stuff.

Since deep electric well pumps are usually located several hundred feet below the ground, a 3 wire model is going to be your best bet, as the starter controls are above ground, wired to the pump. Otherwise, if the pump fails you’ll need to bring it up to ground level to fix it.

What’s the difference? The Queen Elizabeth 2 is powered by two conventional motors that generate 44 MW of power and weigh more than 400 metric tons each. The US Navy’s new HTS motor generates 36.5 MW, but it weighs only 75 metric tons.

Did you know that the first truly useful electric motor did not come along until 1888? Nikola Tesla invented the first practicable AC motor in conjunction with the polyphase power transmission system at this time.

A Shunt-Wound motor is a DC motor whose field coils are parallel with its armature. The low starting load (of a shunt-wound motor) as well as the constant speed at which it runs (despite the load) it is the perfect motor for machine tools, blower fans, and centrifugal pumps.

There are a number of parts that make up an electric motor's design. The rotor, for example, serves the crucial purpose of delivering the mechanical power.
